Welcome Cantor Short!

Cantor Emily H. Short is thrilled to join the clergy team at Congregation Beth Emeth. She was ordained at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion New York in May 2023. Cantor Short received dual master’s degrees in Sacred Music from the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music and Jewish Non-Profit Management from the Zelikow School of Jewish Non-Profit Management in May 2022. Cantor Short was the first HUC alumni to graduate with these dual masters’ degrees. Originally from San Diego, California, Cantor Short attended Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, minoring in Music and Jewish Studies. Before pursuing the cantorate, Cantor Short worked at the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, known for its successful production of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish. She previously worked as the cantorial intern for Temple Adas Israel in Sag Harbor, New York; Temple Isaiah in Stony Brook, New York; Aspen Jewish Congregation in Aspen, Colorado, and Congregation Rodeph Sholom in New York, New York. Cantor Short lives in Albany with her wife, Frankie, their dog Kiwi, and their two cats, Hugo and Finn.
