Welcoming Our Children Into the World

Baby Naming

Baby namings usually occur within the first few months. We usually name babies at our Shabbat service (Friday evening or Saturday morning) or at a separate location.

Sometimes the babies and their parents are new to the community; sometimes they are the children or grandchildren of members. Anyone is invited to call and arrange a date to welcome their child into the Jewish community. You will meet with a member of our clergy to discuss how the ceremony will work for your family, as well as to choose your child(ren)’s Jewish/Hebrew name.

B’rit Milah (Bris)

Brit Milah is celebrated on the eighth day after birth, and includes both the medical procedure and Hebrew naming.

Your simcha can occur in the chapel, sanctuary, or at another location. Please note that there is a separate fee for the services of the mohel. We have a list of mohels with whom we co-officiate.  You can find a mohel by calling or emailing our office.

Often the family of the newly-named child hosts an Oneg after Shabbat services. Contact Kathy Golderman
(518 436-9761 x225) to make arrangements.
