HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF:
Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast of the United States, doing billions of dollars in damage, causing dozens of deaths, and leaving more than 7.5 million people without power. As the storm was downgraded to a low pressure system, it continued to wreak havoc as far west as Cleveland, Ohio, and as far north as Toronto, Ontario.
Even as we work to determine the specific impact to URJ congregations and families, and to our larger communities, it is already clear - too clear - that this storm will require a long-term, coordinated recovery effort. The URJ is in the process of reaching out to all our congregations on the east coast and throughout the Midwest to determine what the most immediate needs are in impacted communities.
With your support the URJ will provide relief to congregations, families and communities, just as we have done for victims of natural disasters around the world. Together we can provide hope and help to those in need. U.S. Donations can be made online to the URJ Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund or by mail:

Mission: To spearhead the commitment of our congregation to Tikkun Olam and to espouse the social justice values of Reform Judaism. We accomplish this through: hands on social action programs and activities; identifying and addressing community problems through programs and volunteer activities; advocating Reform Jewish values and teachings; engaging in tzedakah; and encouraging and recruiting Beth Emeth members to participate in social action and social justice programs and activities.
Social Action programs and activities provide the opportunity to work with individuals and organizations that provide direct services to those in need of assistance, and to educate and advocate on behalf of needed public policy change.

SOUP KITCHEN:
Every Sunday, Beth Emeth runs a Soup Kitchen located at 369 Livingston Avenue (corner of Livingston & Thornton) in Albany, 52 weeks a year. The Soup Kitchen serves members of the community who need a hot meal and a place to go. Volunteers work from about 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM, preparing and serving the meal as well as cleaning up afterward.
